San Bernardino Work injury BREAKING NEWS: PEOPLE WITH HEALTH INSURANCE GET BETTER CARE

Workers with insurance have better outcomes than those without? Gee, imagine that.

The WCRI released a report last week comparing outcomes for injured workers who have health insurance to those without.

Unsurprisingly, those with insurance get faster treatment, are more satisfied with their care and get back to work quicker than those without health insurance.

What does this tell us?

• Our workers’ compensation system is failing our injured workers, especially those most vulnerable with limited access to health care
• Private health insurance is picking up the tab for what workers’ compensation should be covering
• UR, IMR and the alphabet soup of workers’ compensation regulations are clogging up the system, delaying care and increasing costs for health insurers and employers

Everyone under the work comp system deserves to have effective outcomes, not just those lucky enough to have their own insurance. Wasn’t that the “grand bargain?”
