Over the years, a number of injured workers have come to me for consultation after first calling a law firm with a catchy or gimmicky name—often advertised through toll-free numbers and heavy marketing—but one that does not clearly identify an actual attorney. In many of those cases, the injured worker never spoke with a lawyer at all before signing up. That raises an obvious question: would you choose your doctor this way?

Workers’ compensation cases are not interchangeable, and neither are injured workers. Yet many high-volume firms operate on a call-center model, where intake staff or case managers handle most communications and legal decisions are made behind the scenes, if at all.
