Experienced Trial Attorney Serving the Inland Empire

Abogado John Metz John Metz is an experienced trial attorney and partner at the Law Offices of Cleveland & Metz. A lifelong Inland Empire resident, John was born and raised in Upland, California, attended Upland High School, and has practiced law in the region for more than 30 years.

John represents injured workers in California workers’ compensation matters and also brings extensive courtroom and trial experience from civil and criminal cases.

Education and Early Legal Career

John attended the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a degree in Business Economics. While attending UCR, he worked as a law clerk for a Rancho Cucamonga law firm handling criminal, workers’ compensation and personal injury matters.

During his undergraduate studies, John was named to the Dean’s List on five occasions.

After graduating from UCR, John attended the University of La Verne College of Law. During law school, he participated in Law Review and received six American Jurisprudence Awards for achieving the highest grade in his class.

John graduated from law school and passed the California Bar examination in 1995.

More Than 30 Years of Trial and Litigation Experience

John began practicing with a Rancho Cucamonga law firm handling criminal, work injury and workers’ compensation matters. Shortly afterward, he joined Charles Cleveland in what became the Law Offices of Cleveland & Metz.

Over the course of his career, John has participated in hundreds of trials, arbitrations and mediations. His experience includes jury and court trials in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, proceedings before the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, Alternative Dispute Resolution matters and DMV hearings.

That broad litigation background gives John substantial experience evaluating evidence, preparing cases for hearing and presenting disputed matters before judges and juries.

Workers’ Compensation Practice

Today, a significant part of John’s practice is devoted to representing injured workers.

Workers’ compensation cases can involve much more than a single workplace accident. John represents workers dealing with specific injuries, cumulative trauma, disputed medical treatment, permanent disability and other issues that can arise during a workers’ compensation claim.

John has also served as a Judge Pro Tem at the Pomona Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.

Professional and Community Involvement

John is licensed to practice law in California state courts and the United States District Court.

He has served as president of the local Barristers Association and has been a member of the American Bar Association. His professional recognition has included a highly rated designation from Martindale-Hubbell and recognition among Top Lawyers in California.

John has also remained active in the local community, including serving as Chairman of the Board at St. Mark’s School in Upland.

Raíces locales

John’s connection to the Inland Empire extends well beyond his law practice. He grew up in Upland and has spent his professional career practicing in the region.

John and his wife raised four children in the Rancho Cucamonga area. Outside the office, he follows the United States Naval Academy Midshipmen, UCLA Bruins and Los Angeles Dodgers.

John continues to represent injured workers and accident victims throughout the Inland Empire and surrounding communities.
